Day 54:
What a lovely quiet evening until the South Australian rooster decided it was morning. Fine when he was 100 metres away but then he wanted to be beside our van and announce the day is dawning. Our clock showed 4:50 am and we had been in bed since 7:30 so I suppose that was enough sleep. We tried to find a radio station to get the SA time correct cause I was wrong on last blog, about an hour out, forgot daylight saving. So, Mister Clever decided to use his phone and stream SA ABC to get the time. We listened for about 10 minutes then he wandered off to the loo and said keep an ear out for the time. I picked up my phone and googled SA time and lo and behold it told me precisely without using up our precious download limit. Some have it and some don't (nous that is). The chickens clucked around the van and the birds corralled and sang so we got the message and decided to get a move on cause it was 8:40 on our new time frame.
We were off and travelling by 7:30 on our car clock but that was actually 9:50, I am so confused. Anyway, just headed east and drove and drove and guess what it rained again. Four times I have crossed the Nullarbor and it has rained each time - this time just sprinkling but threatening and really black the whole way but we did have to use the wipers so it counts as rain.
Stopped at Head of Bight again with the 800kms of Bunda Cliffs. On our way over it was pelting down so did not go to check our whale situation as we said it will still be whale season on the way back. We go down go to the pay the fee and the guy goes 'you know the whales have finished for the season' but still took our entrance money. Rats it does say till Nov 1st and it is only 18th Oct, oh well next time W says. So, had lunch there in our van after walking down and photographing the cliffs again.
Now have driven into Penong, famous for historical windmills, why have we not stayed here before. Off the highway, clean, level sites, drive thru site so don't have to disconnect, a great overnight place, even the loo paper folded into a little triangle. These things definitely matter when camping. He is doing a roast pork dinner to use up our veggies before the phantom quarantine guys take it. This camp ground has a swap basket where you can leave any unneeded veggies and swap with whatever. We needed a potato and so we have left four onions, half a lettuce and half a pumpkin. Better for people to use than be thrown in a veggie bin.
So off to Streaky Bay tomorrow. It is hot and sticky but we will still keep quilt on just in case.
Mwahhhss to all
