Since there's not a whole lot to do in nanning (I think us white people are the main attractions here). We've taken it easy the last 2 days.
For breakfast we thought we would checkout Walmart -- yep I said walmart. But was it like the Walmart we know of? Definitely not! Other than the Walmart sign of course it really wasn't like it at all. Very very cheap though for example a bottle of coke was .25 and they had great dumplings! But of course still hanging ducks and other random foodstuffs as they would say that we didn't know what it was. So we bought a few things and headed back to our hostel. We have been craving a real western breakfast so badly but it's no where to be found mcdonalds is about the closest.
Our hostel here has a computer so we were excited to load all our photos only to be completely let down as access is so limited and slower than imaginable. We tried to use an Internet cafe also but apparently only Chinese can use that! We were a little bit offended haha. Ah well we will just all have to be patient I guess our photos are definitely worth the wait!
Later in the day of course after eating a few more crappy meals of what we thought it was and what it wasn't We managed to find ourselves a massage place after of course going to a few "massage" places and walking out. These are apparently covered up as s***ty hair salons but really will do a lot more than your hair. But of course signs are all in Chinese so only way to find out is go in and try and play charades to see if they know what were looking for haha.
So after having a few laughs we found ourselves a sign with a foot on it and assumed it was a massage place and we were right yay ! They bring us to the back room and feeling a bit hesitant we we decided to just go with it. Anyways it turned out amazing. We both got full body massages for 60minutes for a whopping 40 yuan each ($6.50 Canadian) wow eh??
Later that night we headed out with the same group from the hostel again to the crazy night market for some dinner. After roaming around and finding somethings we couldn't bare to look at let alone eat we decided to goto a busy restaurant ( always a good idea to go where it's busy ). They had a full dog on the menu for 488 yuan about $80 Canadian but no thank you! We got some beef and chicken skewers, sweet and sour pork, rice and vegetables.
Of course while we're sitting at our thankfully large table for once not our kids table like the other night. Families eating in the restaurant all stare at us white folks. A cute kid kept running upto the table saying hello and running away. Some are just excited to say hello to us as we walk by etc. they also offered Ty a smoke however we don't smoke but nice gesture of course!
After making our way through the crazy streets we stopped so the guys could get pizza (sometimes Asian food just doesn't do the trick I guess ). Managed to order some normal pizZa toppings ( they had many weird such as cow intestines, fungus etc) and headed back to our hostel for bed.
Tuesday morning we head to Hanoi Vietnam via a bus for 8 hours until then we don't have much planned in nanning. Might check out this cheap museum for .10 entry walk around a bit more and our daily mission --find eatable food. Haha
Oh and funny side note apparently toddlers I would say probably 5 and younger all have holes cut out of the butt in there pants. At first I thought that kid just had a clean rip in the butt of his pants but then I started seeing many kids with that. I wanted to take a picture but Ty thought it would be rude haha. ( I will next time I see it!) must make it easier for them to squat when they have to goto the bathroom I guess. You would think there bums would be so cold though when it's winter. Like in Beijing it was freezing. Literally freeze there buns off !
Anyways, Hope everyone had a great Christmas and good luck boxing day shopping!
