Ate a very western breakfast for once: French toast, eggs, sausage and fruit.
Heading on our way to Leshan and our 2.5 hour car trip!
Can't say we enjoy long trip but anything is better then 32 hours on a train.
Arrived to the giant Buddha park: lush green vegetation was welcomed, not the steep climb up. Great views of the foggy maybe polluted city views.
As well as the main attraction there are temples throughout the park. Walk through a temple with many wood carved Buddha as seeing giant Buddhas in China is like seeing Tim Hortons in Canada: around every corner.
The main reason we came: mr giant Buddha in Leshan. You come across seeing a giant head, cool not not crazy. Coming close to it you see the railings lined with Chinese tourist, sometimes the stare at us as much as they do the giant Buddha. Ok back to what I was saying...
The giant is once unraveled once you pass the pesky tourist; a huge cliff drop and the body of the Buddha. To compare the size it's like the statue of liberty sitting down on the chair.
Climbing down the steep hill ( not elderly or handicap friendly may I say) you reach the bottom of the giant. Looking at the details, the Buddhas toes are over a size of a car each.
After bring wooed by this marvel we killed our legs with all the steps on the park.
Ventured the lush green park more, ate some lunch and seen a washroom that describing would take your appetite away.
Left Leshan and arrived back in Chengdu.
Had an easy going evening at our hostel: food is cheap and do is the beer!
Tomorrow we spend time in Chengdu and Friday we volunteer at the Panda reserve.
Will be heading south to warmer places on Saturday which means another 26 hours on a train... Agghhh.
We planned to be in Hong Kong for Xmas but found that even hostel prices per night were over $400/night Canadian for a room with two other beds..., ya I know eh!
So not sure what the plans will be for Xmas but I know the only snow we will see is if we order a daiquiri.
Take Care for now and thanks for following us!
Cheers T & M
