Today we went down to Lumphini Park in the morning. We walked through what appeared to be Bangkok's version of the "occupy" squatters camp and through to the lake in the middle of the park. We were taking some photos when Shell yelled out asking what the hell was swimming along near the bank of the lake. At first it looked like a python but as it came out of the water it was large monitor lizard. We watched it for a while as it looked like it was going to try and catch a bird but it didn't do much so we moved on. We thought it was something special to see but as we walked around the lake they were everywhere. We probably looked like someone who got excited seeing a seagull in Australia.
This afternoon we went on a river cruise along the Chao Phraya river and up one of the canals on the Thonburi side of the river. The first part of the cruise was in a longtail boat which was relaxing and gave good views of the river and other sights in Bangkok as well as an insight into how people live alongside the canals. The second part of the cruise was in a converted rice barge. On this part of the cruise we had all you can drink cocktails and fresh fruit and other Thai sweets which was quite nice. Even S had a couple of cocktails!
Tonight we went to dinner at the MBK food hall again before heading out to Patpong for a quick look around the night market and to be harassed by touts trying to get you into their sex shows. It all looked a bit sad and the market was just the usual fake watches and clothing.
