We eventually arrived in Bangkok, cleared customs and immigration, picked up our bags and wandered through the nothing to declare exit past the staff all sitting in a circle having a chat. We went to the meetingpoint where our transfer to the hotel was supposed to meet us. No one
there was holding a sign for us or our hotel so we waited a bit, walked around looking for them and then went to the Novotel airport hotel counter as we were staying at the Novotel in the city so hoped they might be able to locate our transfer. They walked down to where we were
originally and pointed out a guy holding up a Holiday Inn sign. We felt pretty stupid not realising that if you want to find you transfer to the Novotel you go to the Holiday Inn guy.
 
Finally we were on our way to the hotel. The trip took about 40 minutes and we got out of the
car and the usual assortment of porters collecting luggage out of the boot as we headed to reception to check-in. The guy at reception found our reservation and all was going smoothly until he decided to tell us that the queen bedded room we booked months ago was not available, we had a twin instead. He offered to have housekeeping push the single beds together and said our queen room would be ready tomorrow for us. We weren't especially keen, single beds pushed together have a tendency to move apart during the night and with changing rooms the next morning we'd have to move all our stuff out, store it at reception until the newroom was available and them move into the new room. This meant we'd have nowhere to go to relax during the day and waste most of it mucking around changing rooms rather than doing what we wanted to do.

After a phone call from reception to whom we assume was a manager we were offered an
upgrade to an executive floor room with a king bed. Much better. We finally went to our room, dropped off our bags then went out to find a supermarket and have a light snack before bed. The supermarket was closed and the 7/11 had nothing we needed so after a quick snack we went back to the hotel for a sleep.
