El Tunco... Hmm... That wasn´t anywhere close to what we expected, so both spoons decided to leave after a couple of days. Even the one who was supposed to become a professional surfer. Surf was actually pretty good, but the beaches was terrible, and there weren´t to much people to hang out with either. This time, we had enough of chicken buses tho, so we got a pretty fast and decent shuttlebus directly to Antigua, Guatemala.
The fluffy oldest spoon had been to Antigua several years ago. Actually as much as 10 years ago... Yes, he is that old! Apparently, Antigua has changed... A LOT... And not in a good way... The extremly old spoons told that before there wasn´t any hostels or hotels like now, no fancy restaurants, no Burger King, no McDonalds and def not as many annoying beggars and souvenirdudes... All in all, the terrifyingly old spoon was a bit dissapointed. Antigua is still a nice city tho, kinda beautiful, but kinda crowded nowadays.
The two spoons has split up again, the fellowship of drunkyness has yet again been broken... Who will now bring the precious beer to Mordor? The outrageously old spoon stayed in Antigua while the younger spoon traveled back to Honduras to visit Copan Ruins. Surprise, surprise... U don´t need an exit stamp to travel to Copan from Guatemala, just tell the guards (they´re pretty ignorant, and couldn´t care less) that u are only going to Copan and everything is fine. The Copan Ruins is maybe not as famous as Tikal, Chizten Itza etc... However, after being there I can truthfully say it is well worth a visit. The unfathomably old spoon def missed out! HAH!! Copan Ruins is out in a more or less open area, and the ruins are very well preserved. They have some amazing details, and macaws are accompanying you, flying around in the trees. The ruins aren´t covering too big an area tho, so u quickly discover that u really don´t need a lot of time there. Spent the extra time visiting some nearby mountain villages and had a very nice couple of days. The original plan was to travel back to Antigua and the incomprehesibly old spoon, but faith wanted it otherwise, and I caught a somewhat direct chickenbus to Flores, where I am now. As far as I now, the other spoon is about to leave Antigua and we will meet again in Tulum or Cancun. Btw... Did u know that "a dag" is actually a piece of poo, tangled in the wool, hanging on the rear end of a sheep?

Anyyyhoow... Flores is hot as hell on earth, but luckily it´s situated in the middle of a rather dirty, muddy and brownish lake where it´s lovely to go for a swim! So that´s what I did! This morning the silky smooth spoon got up at 4 AM and caught the earliest shuttle to Tikal. I was actually the first person inside the park and had the pleasure to explore the ruins of Tikal for a couple of hours before I even saw a single other tourist! More than five hours, several litres of water and almost 300 pictures later I made my way out of the park. Tikal is pretty amazing, with it´s towering pyramids amidst the deep jungle it makes quite an impression.
But what is better, Copan or Tikal? Most people would prolly say Tikal in a heartbeat, but I´m not so sure I would agree. The sites are pretty different... While Copan is much smaller, it´s also situated in a more open area and u get great panoramic overwievs. Also Copan has some pretty impressive details that u wont see in Tikal. On the other hand, Tikal is much more dominating and impressive in form of it´s separate enormous temples and the way they are built. It took 2 hours to explore Copan, and more than 5 hours to explore Tikal. That´s how much bigger Tikal is. I would recommend to visit both sites. It´s well worth your time and money... Getting seriously into this Mayan thing, I´m thinking of visiting Lamanai in Belize as well. But then again, I might rather dive as it´s supposedly whale shark season... Yeeeeeeeewww!!!
Well, now I´m off to another delightful bath in the lake of dirtyness... Something is crawling on me, and I need to wash it away... Prolly lice, filthy little crawling lice... Filthy, filthy!! By the way, does anyone know how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? And what is a woodchuck? Is it like a gopher? If the woodchuck's name was Maurice, then it could chuck all the wood that it wanted to. However, if its name is Frank, no chucking would be allowed. Some would also say that about as many boards as the Mongol hoards would hoard if the Mongol hordes did hoard boards. But that´s just nonsense...

Viola Haha, love your blog! I think Antigua still was cool, cuz they preserved the old buildings so it looked kind of nice with the modern shops in these old old houses..l! :) El Tunca was not very good. But u should go to Isla Mujeres when first in Cancun. And u can't miss Playa del Carmen!!
