You know what's cool? Midgets... midgets are cool! Sadly we haven't seen any midgets in Suriname. We thought we saw one, but it was probably a small guy with a big head or a big head on a small guy. We're keeping our hopes up for some eye-to-eye midgetspotting later this weekend. Anyhooow, as many of u might have noticed we added pictures of the nearly fatal snake assault and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We're currently in Paramaribo, Suriname. And honestly, getting out of French Guiana felt like being released from prison. Finally we're back on track! We spent our last day in French Guiana in the border town called St. Laurent du Maroni. As much as it was a better and more lively place than Cayenne, it was still equally bloody expensive. We ended up spending the night in hammocks and we can now conclude that the spoons are not built for sleeping in hammocks. Not only are the hammocks uncomfortable to sleep in, but the worst part is all the guttural sounds that's emerging from our various body parts while in them. We think we've got enough material now to produce a brand new CD when we get home. Gonna call it "The Sound of Spoons".
We got through the hammocknight and set of early morning across the river that makes the border between French Guiana and Suriname. For those of you who have been to India, arriving Suriname can easily be compared. Being overrun by people that is waaaay overstepping your comfort zone and who wants to either sell you transport, Spungebob hammers, goats, umbrellas, watches, DVDs... u name it! Luckily, like all borders, even this one had a Mr. Fix It who quickly arranged all necessities and we soon found ourselves in a van to the capital watching an Eddie Murphy movie dubbed into gibberish. Yes, they speak gibberish in Suriname.
Paramaribo is a funky city, totally stripped of highrise buildings the city center mainly consists of old wooden buildings. The whole inner city of Paramaribo is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Even the cathedral is made of wood, which is fortunate as the spoons are very much intrigued by wooden churches and buildings..... But... it is actually one of the biggest wooden structures in the Americas and it is quite impressive. Paramaribo offers a wide selcetion of nightclubs and bars and has a very lively nightlife. This is all just boring too us tho, as we already stated, the spoons prefer to watch wooden structures instead.
Last night, encouraged by the bright idea of producing "The Sound of Spoons" we went to one of Paramaribo's many casinos as we reckoned it to be a bulletproof way to finance our upcoming soundtrack. It took around 15 seconds for us to realize, much to our distress, that the plan had failed. However, we discovered that the casinos serve free drinks while playing, so now we are just hanging around, leeching free drinks while not actually playing... using the newly successful advantage as a pre-party. And by that, I think we're off to another leechsession right now...
