Bocas del Toro is hereby renamed to Bocas del Boring! Sure, we had some really good parties and met some awesome people... But, there is always a but... The beaches aren't that good and it's a bit of a hassle to get to them, the snorkling and diving is pretty poor, other activities like surfing etc. isn't all that shít either. Overall, Bocas = thumbs down. There's better places all over South n Central America.
Los tres spoonadores spent three days in Bocas del Boring. And the biggest highlight was prolly the lame and horrible attempt to mug the supreme spoon. The evil thief tried, but failed miserably. It wasn't much of a try tho... As many of you already know, this is how it went down:
Evil thief: Give me your money!
Brave spoon: Uhm... No...
Evil thief: Then I will steal your money!
Brave spoon: Ok...
Evil thief: But I can't mug you, they will throw me in jail... Lucky tourist... I will be sent to Panama City jail for 5 years!
Brave spoon: That's not good...
Evil thief: Can u at least give me a dollar?
Brave spoon: No...
Evil thief: Ok, good night then...
Brave spoon: Good night!
After the incident the brave me enjoyed a tasty chicken quesadilla for the only two dollars I actually had on me...! Mmmmm quesadilla from Shelly's. Come to think of it, that quesadilla made the trip to Bocas del Boring worth it all together!
Coming back from Red Frog Beach the next morning los tres spoonadores discovered to their horror that someone had broken into their dorm!! But luckily, nothing was stolen and they even left their e-mail adresses... Not to clever burglars, eh?
After Bocas del Boring, los tres spoonadores worked their way up to Puerto Límon, Costa Rica where we spent the night in beautiful threespoon harmony. Only once did we wake up when a horrified spoon accused a fellow spooner of sleeptalking and sleepjumping. As it turns out, it seems to be the accusing spoon that actually was to blame for the disturbances himself... But this is just very confusing for both spoons and blogreaders, so to wrap it up: one of the spoons sleeptalked and sleepjumped, but it might be another spoon than first assumed.
As you may have noticed from the intriguing headline, we are now in Tortuguero. We had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get here, as we weren't bright enough to comprehend the meaning of Labor Day. So, when we arrived at the docks in Moín to catch a boat up to Tortuguero we found the docks deserted since no-one was working on the 1st of May. Interesting... Luckily, money makes people do stuff, and after an hour or so we had bribed our way onto a boat and were speeding up the Costa Rican coast in the fancy artificial canal they have made. The boatride is almost three hours long, and took us through fascinating rainforest. We spotted some sloths, spider monkeys, howler monkeys a little croc and several angry birds. Small useless red ones, big scary red ones, yellow and fast ones, small creepy blue ones, white kamikaze birdies and black bombers.
We're staying at a decent enough jungle lodge, Rana Roja Cabinas. We have our own little junglehut with good spooning opportunities since to our great delight, two spoons has to share a bed. And there is a swimming pool! The only concern we've got is regarding the toilet... It's a bit dodgy to visit el baño while knowing that u might have some ants visiting your interiors at any given second. The toilet is figurativly speaking covered with the nasty little bugs, which spices up an already pleasant experience.
We've been exploring Tortuguero National Park by both canoe and by foot. None of the excursions has been very memorable, but we have seen a lot of spider- and howler monkeys, several caymans, few turtles and two snakes. Eyelash Vipers has a neurotoxic poison, and apparently one injection is enough to kill of 15 indiginous locals. Luckily we're not locals so this didn't sound frightening at all. A great opportunity to lean in close and get some funkadelic macro pictures. After all, the snake could kill people, not spoons...
Tonight we're going turtle watching at the beach. At 9.30 PM sharp, if u must know. Equipped with super infrared CIA goggles we shall witness the laying of eggs as it is nesting season for one of the turtle species that nests here. Flashes, cameras and other lightsources are not allowed... so sorry, no pictures... But yes, it did happen!!
And I have some exciting news for y'all! Next week the two original spoons might be reunited again after more than a month apart... Aaah the joy!!!
