The spoons are now mobile blogging, and it's a freaking hassle, so y'all better appreciate it!
As you might have noticed, we've been kicking it shoeless in Barbados the last few days. Without hesitation the best choice we've made in a while. Barbados is actually just a stopover, as we're heading over to Union Island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to meet some friends and hopefully get to do some kitesurfing!!
It was on a gray, rainy and boring day in French Guiana we decided to do this little re-route, and booked dirt cheap tickets out from Georgetown to Barbados and onto St. Vincent. This was hardly planned and when we realized we actually booked tickets out here we were like, what the f***!??
After a near death experience with a stoned driver who almost fell asleep several times on the way to the airport in Georgetown (he saw stuff in the road that wasnt there as well, and he hit a dog, but it was probably already dead) we caught a plane to Barbados.
We've now been enjoying four lazy days at a lovely guesthouse right outside of Bridgetown. We have our own apartment, approximately 15 meters off the beach. The spoons has spent the days swimming and snorkling with sea turtles, road tripping around the whole island and the diving spoon has even had two great dives. One shipwreck and one reef dive, highlights included a lot of turtles, barracudas, mooray eels and a tiny little yellow sea horse!
But overall, one thing is for sure... Barbados is for old people, not young and fit spoons... There's hardly any young people here at all. Yes we are young!!! And fit... Maybe, well one of us are, the other one is fat... No but seriously, we both look like a million dollars!
The island is flat, not that much vegetated, but if you drive around the coast there are some pretty cool places. East coast offers great surfing, but poor beaches. West coast offers great diving and amazing beaches. South coast is all about resorts and guesthouses. North coast is up north and there is stuff there. There is a wildlife reserve here, but it's more of a monkey forest with caged animals... Pretty sad to be honest.
The best part bout Barbados has prolly been just chilling out at the beach next to our apartment. The spoons considers this a little timeout, or a break from travelling, which we sorely needed after struggling through the bizarre places we've passed on the way.
Tomorrow we're flying out, and next time you hear from us, we're kiting it up @Union Island!
