Day 19
Without hope you cannot start the day
I rode Out of the Yukon today in cold and gray weather. No rain, but just a blah day, which makes riding no fun. So in all honesty I have nothing to say about that my faithful readers.
Though.... as soon as I made that right turn into BC. (british columbia) the roads went to s***!
I honestly can't believe it. The f***ing Canadian Dept of Transportation is for s***...really.
The road..which is THE only road South from the Yukon. So it's not like they have tons of roads TO maintain. Just this ONE!!! well...it went from tarmac, to gravel. Gravel to dirt. Dirt to Mud. at least Mud when the rains came at about 3:30PM..Oh yes....more rain. At least the majority of my ride today was NOT in rain, but seriously...I cant take much more of it. They're calling for more tomorrow. I might just set fire to my bike, and go to an airport, and say f*** it. How much rain CAN one person endure? Im 13/19 days of rain. seriously.
It's been REALLY hard up here. I'm not sure if my b****ing from time to time can really shed light on how hard this is some days. I mean...imagine...you are the ONLY one on the road for tens of miles. its pouring rain. you are muddy, cold, wet, hungry, and low on gas. The road has turned into this muddy mess of gravel and dirt and so many potholes, that you are circumnavigating around them at about 5-10mph. This is going on for at least 2 hours. it REALLY wears on the soul. my soul at least.
So amazingly...I kept the bike upright. I thought I was going to lose it more then enough times to count. All while cursing the top of my lungs at the sky, the rain. Yelling like a madman to see what else it can throw at me.
It gets a little crazy, when you have to assess your situation and think....Ok...if i run out of gas here...now. I could set up my wet tent and gear, and possibly wing it tonight. I do have a bottle of water, and 3 power bars left. But this trip wasnt about being survivorman.
So...after almost 200 miles of this crap. the rains stopped. and I got to Dease lake. which had a motel. THANK GOD!!!! I didnt think I could go much further. Im wet, and caked with mud. my cruiser now looks like a dirt bike its SOO caked with gunk
So....again with the messages. trust me, you might think its funny im riding in the rain...but...its pretty f***ing scary s***, and not for any amateur. I pat myself on the back for dealing with the elements and making it this far. Hell, I've rode through 5 time zones. From 90 degree weather down to 40 degree weather. Rain, sleet, mud, gravel, dirt.
So...I hope tomorrow is better. I hope the rains have subsided for the rest of my trip. I hope I'm headed to warmer weather. I hope Ashley is doing OK. I hope Lilly still remembers who I am. I hope Kiwi is not getting too frazzled with learning how to drive a car. I hope everyone knows that all your well wishes really do mean a lot, but when it comes down to it, I'd give it all up to sit in a bar with you all and drink some good beer.
Michele: Im almost at 3 weeks...I'll let you know if it starts to get easier
Donna: tell Jared he ROCKS! and I carry my tent and TONS of other gear on saddle bags on the back of my bike. Im sure there are pics on here somewhere.
414 miles today
6,072 total miles
My poor bike, she looks a mess, I might try to take a pic of her tomorrow
