Day 17
Snow coming?
Before I start todays blog, I need to let you all know that in the last 17 days, its rained 12 of them. Seriously! Not non-stop rain, but at least periods of rain or thunderstorms here and there. I swear to God, I cannot remember being in So much rain EVER!
It really wears on the soul.
I remember Back when I was in Niagra. It was SO hot, I was just in tee shirt and jeans and sweating my ass off.
Today, I was about 100 miles north of Anchorage and I was SO cold and riding in rain, I was literaly shivering. I pulled over to get some fuel and parked at this little diner where I found out the temp was 42 degrees. HOLY CHRIST!! I was riding in almost freezing weather in the rain, no wonder I was shivering. I ordered some hot tea just to wrap my hands around the mug to warm them up and stop them from shaking. So, I'm thinking...where is that 90 degree weather at? I really need to ride there. The sooner the better. In the diner I met an older couple from Virginia who were also seeking shelter from the rain. Although they were riding a Goldwing, and had electrical heated clothing, who was the one roughing it now? Yup, still me.
The sun eventually came out around 3PM I think, and warmed it up to about 58 today. Damn Alaska is cold! Pretty, but cold. I cannot imagine what their winters are like.
So, I am back in Tok tonight, warming up in a hotel. Tomorrow will be border crossing back into Canada and back to Whitehorse (where we met the Germans) Hopefully I will be getting the bike serviced there at the Yukon Honda shop, though when I called them today, they said they are backed up 2 weeks and said I could stop by but they can't promise anything...sigh
I saw some AMAZING mtn ranges today. Took some pics and a video though I have like 8 videos still awaiting to be approved by offexploring so you all can see them.
I'm still 8 days ahead of schedule, and by that I mean...I originally planned this trip out at about 200 miles a day. Not knowing that I could easily do 300+ miles a day. The good part of that is, I have more leway for any issues that crop up (hopefully not) but more so, it should keep me ahead of cold weather come oct/nov. when I do leg 2 & 3 of this trip.
I love everyones messages. Thanks! I also have to say, that i DO want to chill out somewhere, but so far, no place has really inspired me to do so. I hoping maybe Banff in Alberta. I also am going to treat myself to a splurge night on myself somewhere...possibly Banff. get a massage, a kick ass room with a view, a swimming pool. That sort of thing.
