Wills and James Road Trip
Day Four 17.03.05
William persuaded James to go for a run this morning, James complained that he did not bring any running shoes and that it would be difficult to run in a pair of casual trainers but as James had promised to get healthy and do more exercise he felt obliged to don his shorts and impracticable shoes and join William in a run.
Two hundred yards up the road and William was ready for a walk. This surprised James and made him realise he wasn't as unfit as he thought. Whilst on the run we decided that as last night was our last at Camping Les Capucines in Ranville we may as well head directly to La Fraudiere. This is a house owned by friends between Niort and Poitier which is east of La Rochelle.
We packed up the tent even though this was not the sunniest of mornings and the dew had not had time to dry off. By 12pm we were ready to set off and with the aid again of the lap top planned a route to our destination. We had a vague idea of where we were going and up until now had not been able to access our email to get the full directions kindly sent by Gordon. The route map was useful if you knew what road you were on in the first place and also if you were not going through a town were the seemed to be about a hundred directions within a short distance. We found that in these circumstances it was best to use our judgement and use road signs rather than look at the screen.
We ended up taking a very scenic route which was neither the shortest or most direct but it did get us here eventually and meant that we saw a lot of France that we would have missed had we used the motorway.
On arrival at La Fraudiere we found it almost as we had left it nearly a year ago. There was a small window broken in the kitchen that almost looked as though someone had tried to break in but there was no sign of anything missing or that any other damage had been caused. We will try and repair this tomorrow.
We cooked a basic meal and drunk some wine (lots of) in front of the fire prepared by William and maintained by James. Looking forward to a decent bed which is a bit of a worry as we have only spent three nights in the van. However we both said we will miss the cosyness of the van.
