Wills and James Road Trip
Day Eleven 25.03.05
We went for lunch today at Coulon and James tried snails for the first time. They are curious little things that don't taste like anything but the sauce they are in. Apparently they are often done in garlic, parsley and butter but these were poached in red wine and onions. To be honest they weren't worth the effort. I'm sure Gordon and Bill will disagree!
There are may waterways in this region and Coulon is a popular place to hire a rowing boat to explore them in more depth. The boat was surprisingly difficult to control particularly as everyone else on the canal was making it look so simple. We all had a go at rowing which involved swapping seats, fortunately nobody ended up in the water. We did get a bit lost though as the map was a little basic. There was also an incident where james had tried to spook William by throwing a piece of wood into the water in front of him. It all went horribly wrong when the piece of wood ricoc off a tree and hit William on the head! Whoops!
In the evening we played a game called 'Ex Libris' where you are given a book title and a brief outline of the story and then have to write the first or last line. It is then up to each person to decide which they think is the real version. You get a point for getting the right version and a point for fooling an opponent. It sounds too difficult but actually some of the real first and last lines are so preposterous that nobody thinks they could possibly be real. It's a great game and worth buying if you see it.
