Today we went on a trip to the Barossa Valley wine tasting, which is an absolute must hen visiting South Australia. We ( myself, Sarah and Laura) looked at various different trips but settled on the Groovy Grape Tours to the Barossa, as we figured it was more likely to be lots of younger people as opposed to more sophisticated wine connoisseurs.
Our trip began by a nice scenic drive into the Adelaide Hills. I have decided that ( apart from the market) the Hills are definitely the best bit of Adelaide, they really are beautiful and some of the houses are just so lovely, I couldn't live in one though I would be way to worried about bush fires and stuff. We stopped at a small town of Gumeracha in the hills famous for its toys, and home of the giant rocking horse, after some breaky we then headed off to the Rowland Flat to the famous vineyards of Jacobs Creek. Our tour was one of the few that allowed us to get a guided visit to the interpretative centre, where we learnt about the history of Jacobs Creek Winery. The Centre has just been done up and we all noted how nice it would be for a wedding, overlooking the creek and vineyards ( note to self). The wine tasting was good, we got to sample 6 wines in total and all decided there and then that we were not fans of red wine, I think my favourite was the resiling ( note for mother,,, stock up for when I am home). When tasting we were advised to look at the taste chart to see if we could detect any of the "subtle hints"- we of course couldn't but then again we were trying to taste things such as tinned asparagus/ wax/ asbestos etc so I am quite glad I couldn't. Anyway we then continued on to 2 further wineries before stopping for a BBQ lunch. Which I think was definitely a good idea as we were all rather merry by this point. I was pleased we had a BBQ as I wanted Sarah to have one whilst she was in oz, even if she did wimp out of having kangaroo. After Lunch we continued on to yet more wineries, but these tended to specialise more in desert wines and fortified wines of which I am apparently quite a fan… I liked the sherry very much but it did send me to sleep on the bus back to Adelaide. In fact Iwas rather annoyed to be woken up to go and look at the whispering wall.
After that we cruised back in to Adelaide, and decide that as we were in the city we may as well try and carry on. We ended up back in the Austral( Rundle Mall) early in the evening which is nice early on a Friday evening as it has a live band. After that we tried our luck at the Elephant which had previously given us a good night out. However it was totally dead, so once again Adelaide failed us on the social front, but I actually thinkit may have been a sign from above to call it a night because when my head hit the pillow I was out like a light. I think a combination of lots of wine and accumulated lack of sleep over last few weeks finally caught up with me.
I wish to add…. NO HANGOVER THE NEXT DAY… I have my mothers genes I think.
