The first stop on our very early morning tour was to a famous waterfall called the Mckenzie falls. The idea was that we get up early and beat the crowds and the heat to the hikes. When we got there it was just about dawn, and it was cold but crisp which made the walk down to the falls really refreshing and worth getting up so early for. The water fall itself is pretty but nothing overly spectacular in any way. I think they take you there because they are proud to have any form of water feature at all in Victorias given the drought, it was funny but still very pretty.
We then drove to out morning hike, which was actually more of a scramble. It was such good fun if probably a little dangerous. I really enjoyed just clambering over the boulders and through the caves. Not sure if there is a name for this king of walking but its great fun. The Grampians themselves are really rocky with steep cliff faces. I think a lot of the people who we met on our way back down would have been heading up to do some rock climbing or abseiling which would have been awesome.
The hike took up most of the morning and after lunch we just continues on towards Adelaide which was about a four hour drive. Our driver did make an exra stop for us in the Adelaide hills at the Mount Lofty lookout, which was worthwhile as we got a fab view over the whole city. I think the experience you get on ozex tours really depends on the guide, our was great and you could tell he actually enjoyed his job.
When I arrived in Adelaide it was so embarrassing. I got dropped off at the Hyatt Hotel which is the 5**** very swish hotel where my cousin Mel works. Well I rock up covered in dust from the hike looking like a pack horse. Literally I had my rucksack and 4 other bags.. Mel told me to text her when I arrivedbut I felt I should hide behind the trees to do so because standing outside the Hyatt next to the porches, and Mercedes looking like that was to embarrassing, so I hid behind the bushes. Even then I managed to attract some attention and the valet came over and asked what I was doing…. The shame! Fortunately Mel came to rescue me, but decided she could leave me in the foyer so ushered me back into the kitchen area where I was out of sight lol .
Mel and Marks house is sooooo nice. Its really nicely decorated and homely I love it! I have my own room, with no intercom woooo. And it was so sweet because on my bed was a little bag with Easter eggs which made me so smiley. Brodie the dog is hysterical, it is actually like Mel and Marks child he is so soft. I think I will e really happy here J … now all I need to do is find a job which I think will be a bit of a challenge.
