With a connecting flight through Mexico City on to Bogota it has taken us all day to arrive in Bogota. Stressed right out, hungry and Paul has his favourite bike tooling confiscated at the airport; someone was not happy!
Arriving into Bogota gone 10pm it was pitch dark, we didn't yet have any currency, again Peso but completely different from the Mexican Peso just to confuse us I'm sure. £1.00 equivalent to $4,528 COP, so we sound minted but also psychologically feels like we are spending loads of money.
We catch a taxi from the airport with a driver who may as well of never been to Bogota ever either, after driving around the city trying to find our hostel, we make it there passing a lot of sketchy characters, even in the taxi we both said it felt dodgy and unsafe. Every block corner was paced by at least two Policia or armed military. All being it was a Saturday night but still, I wouldn't want to be around this city after dark.
We have only one day in Bogota; not a place to hang around, so we mainly use it to figure out our plan from here. The hostel was ok and really central so we could pop out for a walk around the city, and by day it was surprisingly pleasant. Raiding the supermarket we were overjoyed to find sausage rolls!!! Normal food!! It really is the small things but it made us so happy. We sat in the busy main square ate our lunch and people watched, it was warm and relaxed. The city is extremely hilly with surrounding mountains which makes the sunset really picturesque but from there we run back to the hostel before the weirdos appear, Early night and onward tomorrow,
