Thankfully a totally uneventful border crossing into Ipiales for a night where we had a tasty chicken dinner before retreating to watch cable TV with a few vintage bottles of the local brew Poker tucked under our arms...hurrah!! The 80 hour deadlock was broken and we both still like the taste of the amber nectar.
Boarding our bus in the morning with money stashed around our bodies and each fully briefed on what to do in the event of one of the much-publicized bus hi-jacking!! Turns out its all b******s and there were no problems at all, even though we both plopped our pants a little bit whenever the bus stopped randomly in the middle of guerilla territory despite all the scary armed police lining the 8 hour route! It was normally just for the bus driver to take a slash too!!
And while we were not worrying about being unburdened of all our wordly belongings, the journey was beautiful, really tropical, green and lush with amazing colourful flowers everywhere. Plus everyone is so friendly and helpful like they are determined to disprove their country's dodgy rep.
Pulled into Popayan with all its white-washed buildings and cobbley streets earning itself a place on Colombia's pretty city list. Quick evening stroll before crashing out after a pizza in a local student hang-out. Spent the next morning exploring in the sunshine, proper hot, humid, sunshine, and eating empanadas before we were back on the road squashed into a local collectivo for the three hour jaunt to Cali - famous for Colombia's most beautiful women and the most number of fake boobs per capita!!
