We are on our last night here in the beautiful Railay, Krabi!
We arrived at 5pm on 23rd August by a direct boat (although we weren't impressed when the boat stopped in the middle of the sea, and small longtail boats came to pick us up to take us to shore in the pouring rain, then had to wade through the water to get to the shore!) Aaron & Stacey came with us too, so it was nice to have company.
Krabi is a lovely place as it seems very remote and chilled out compared to Phi Phi. There are bars with cushions on the floor to relax on, 'Skunk Bars' that do exactly that - sell skunk! One of the guys who worked in Skunk Bar II was a proper stoner - very relaxed, looked like a hippy and was very happy! No wonder! Don't eat at Mom's Cafe I; James' pizza came out after everyone else had eaten and was ready to go for a drink, Aaron's tomato soup starter came out after his main meal and it was basically blended tomato & water - VILE! I had a peppered steak which burnt my taste buds off but at the same time was relatively enjoyable.
There is a good bar called 'The Last Bar' which is more upbeat. There was a really good fire show on when we arrived - the best one we'd seen yet. One of the fire dancers is also really good at singing/playing guitar, and last night was 'open mic' night, so we sat and listened to him for a while. There was a lot of rain last night and a small power cut when we were in there, but it didn't last long. We had delicious food at Aaron & Stacey's hotel, and all of our food and drink (there was a lot of food on the table) came to approx £20! Crazy!
This morning, I was on the balcony updating our last blog when all of a sudden, a monkey appeared out of nowhere on the balcony next to me! They are quite vicious so I panicked and ran in - realising I had left my phone on the table, I had to run out and grab it before he did! A few more turned up, so I put some fruit on the balcony which they demolished in seconds. I managed to get a few pics which will be posted on here shortly.
Our hotel is beautiful - the room is very spacious with a king size bed (comfortable is an understatement!). We have a nice balcony with a view, a TV & DVD player (which we may use today because it's a monsoon out there!) The bathroom is big and the shower even has a ledge to sit down on! They supplied us with umbrella's and looking outside today I can see why.... also bath robes, free fruit and free water, mini bar, torches and a kettle. Lubbly jubbly! The hotel is situated in the middle of the White Beach and Brown Beach - white beach is lovely, brown beach is quite the opposite. Brown Beach however is where the nightlife is at!
We spent a day on the beach yesterday - I sunbathed (although it was cloudy) whilst James, Aaron & Stacey went out exploring on a canoe! They got some nice pictures of other parts of the beach. I however got a bit of a nice tan ;-)
We are really enjoying it here, besides the nasty weather today. I am not feeling too great today as I had a very vivid dream about my Mum as it was her Birthday yesterday, but it is nice to be away and I can find lots of things to do to take my mind off of it.
Missing you all at home a little bit :-) Will update in a few days after we arrive at our next stop - Koh Lanta! xxx
