OK... we were told that Koh Lanta was dead, so we had low expectations i.e. 6 people in a restaurant, quiet bars etc. This literally took the biscuit. We had already pre-booked accommodation at a very reasonable price, it was called the Ancient Realm. It was a beautiful bungalow with an amazingly comfortable bed and the bathroom was outside (not completely, a bit of open air going on) which would have been lovely had it been nice weather. Unfortunately we were in the peak of a monsoon - the rain almost never stopped, it was extremely windy and very miserable! To make it worse, there was nothing & I mean NOTHING to do. Hardly anywhere was open as it was low season and bad weather, and we got excited about seeing another white face! The first night we went to a local noodle bar for dinner because everywhere was shut. We walked for ages in the rain, there was loads of mud and I temporarily lost a flip flop - I should've found it funny but I actually wanted to cry! The second day, the rain wasn't as bad but still pouring down. We ate twice in a restaurant next door called 'Slow Down' which was quite nice food but a bit pricey for what it was. We rented out a motorbike to cruise up and down the island, as we thought we might be staying in a quiet bit, but it turns out the whole island was the same. We ended up eating in a restaurant with people, yes, people in it! The food was alright, nothing special but it was food nevertheless. We ended up booking our boat out of there a day early as we couldn't face staying there any longer! As for the beach (our hotel was on the beach - amazing location for high season)... it was disgusting. The locals don't bother to clean their beach in low season and it showed.. I didn't even want to walk on it, as it was that disgusting. We couldn't wait to get off of the island! We then made our journey back to Krabi, but to another place called Aonang!
