Firstly, you'll see in this picture that the beaches are beautiful. Pattaya is nothing like this.
If you could sum Pattaya up in three words, this would be sex, money and ... sex!
We stayed in Thong Bar hotel which was cheap and in a good location (Soi 9, Beach Road). Mitch stayed for one night but unfortunately his room smelt worse than a portaloo! He flashpacked it and stayed in the Flipper Lodge hotel (Soi 8, naughty boy street) which had a pool on the roof which we all abused. There were some pesty budgie smugglers around the pool, all with Thai women! Freaks me out! I got badly sunburnt on my face which is neither big nor clever. The nightlife is what Pattaya is all about...
Firstly, we thought we'd treat ourselves to a lovely KFC! Mmmm, yummy. However... it was not. They didn't have anything we ordered for a start, but the chicken tasted good! It didn't sit well for any of us afterwards, but unfortunately for James it put him out for the next day! He had a day off of life, and stayed in the dingey smellcave that was our hotel room. Am I painting a nice image here? He was back to good health in no time after some wonder drugs from the pharmacy! Now, onto the nightlife...
The place to be is Walking Street. There's a huge variation of bars - ones to play pool, ones to chill, ones to get drunk and ones to look at naked ladies dancing! Not forgetting the ladyboy bars and gay bars! I thought that I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I did, as I seemed to get attention from the girls as much as the blokes did! There was one bar in particular which was really fun, as the girls were a good laugh, despite being almost naked trying to get business! They let us jokingly hit them with foam battons and all sorts.
The best night was when we went to a club called LimaLima (better than Tiger Tiger I can tell you!) There was one of the best DJ's in the world called Markus Schulz doing a set and the club was going mental. It was the best club we've ever been to! AND it was free entry!
The Classroom is a military bar where you can get your name put on the wall on a plaque, and it's run by some really good people. We now have a Thai Mafia friend with tattoo's everywhere, even on his hairline. Crazy.
Mitch got a tattoo done in Lords Ink as it was highly recommended. He had 2 pistols on his lower abs/pelvis which look incredible! It cost him approx 130 GBP, but at home this would have been at least 200, and nowhere near the good quality of Lords Ink.
There is a nice British Pub called the Pig & Whistle near Mitch's hotel, which served really good British food but American portions... HUGE. We watched the Royal Wedding whilst eating our British food (bangers & mash, fish & chips, cottage pie), and drinking ice tea. We couldn't have been more British & proud!
All in all, it was really good fun. We'd definitely go back there, in fact, probably in a couple of weeks!
