Today was a good food day. Pancakes for breakfast, tuna pasta for lunch and chicken and rice for dinner. Not to mention potatoes for snacks. Eddy was loving life.
In the morning we went onto an island which is formed of lava rock where a volcano erupted 100 years ago. It was cool to see how the lava had solidfied in lots of different patterns but there are limits to which you can appreciate rocks after an hour. After the walk we snorkelled and saw lots of shoals of fish and a green sea turtle having its brunch. Eddy was shocked to see a penguin swim right past her but by the time she caught other peoples attention it had gone! The beauty of having a 'Go Pro' is that we could watch the footage of it zooming past!
We returned back to the boat and were presented with a variety of fresh fruit, my favourite was the passionfruit as we don't get it like it at home.
The second trip of the day involved visiting another beach with a short walk and another round of snorkelling. Due to the mishap with the briefing I misunderstood that we were snorkelling again so I had already took my one and only allowed shower of the day after the first round. I was happy to lie on the beach and catch some rays though whilst everyone had another go.
After a brief return back on the boat we were off again on a third trip which involved hiking up a mountain. It had several viewing platforms which gave us plenty of photo opportunities and Eddy took some great panoramic photos. Eddy, Kat and I had a bit of a sing song up and down the trail and Nathan told us lots about the army and how he joined. On our way back to the main boat using the Zodiac (dinghy boat) we went past a long stretch of rocky coast and spotted a blue footed booby bird which everyone wanted to take photos of. However, with my sharp eyes (it turns out I'm quite good at spotting things on this trip) I saw a penguin swimming and two more on the rocks so quickly told everyone to look. Poor booby because noone then cared about taking photos of it! It was very exciting to see penguins in the wild. Galapagos penguins are the only species of penguin that swim in tropic waters.
The evening then went on in its usual fashion of dinner and then countless games of Rummy before everyone headed to bed again before 10pm. All the day activities definitely take it out of us!
