In the morning we headed to Lake Titicaca from our hostel in Puno. The lake is over 3000m above sea level and is the highest lake in the world. Titi means puma, caca means stone or grey and the name comes from pre Inca times. The lake is supposedly the shape of a puma catching a rabbit. 60% of the lake belongs to Peru and 40% belongs to Bolivia but the border is only an imaginary line. Today we were supposed to arrive in Puno around 4am and begin our tour of lake titicaca around 7am. However due to snow, the roads were hectic and we did not arrive in Puno until 3pm! First thing in the morning we went to a town called Yanque and watched some children doing a traditional love dance. There were also locals holding eagles and falcons and you could pay to have your photo taken with them. Afterwards we went to the top of the canyon. It is 4910m high and possibly the deepest canyon in the world. At the top of the canyon we went to see the condor birds. Condors are about 1.2m tall and has a 3m wing span. This morning we began our Colca Canyon tour, we were picked up from the hostel and on the way the guide told us about the three mountains in Araquipa these are Picchu Picchu, Misti and Chachani. There is a myth that Picchu Picchu fell in love with C but she loved Misti and that is why C and Misti are so close together and inbetween them there is a small mountain which is supposed to be their child.
