This was an exciting day as it was our first day on our cruise. Following our very long sleep we got up quite early and packed all our bags ready for the cruise. We then went for breakfast at a local cafe and bought some snacks ready for the 5 days aboard the boat.
The first part of the trip involved going to where the Tortugas (tortoises) lived on Santa Cruz. There were some huge tortoises, up to and over 100 years old and weighing up to 200kg. After this we took all our bags to the boat and were shown our cabins. Eddy and I shared one cabin, and Kat and Nathan shared too. We then took a small boat over to the Darwin auditorium which housed tortoises and land iguanas. There is a very important rule in Galapagos, which is you must remain 2m away from all the animals. Of course sometimes animals come to you, but you must not touch them. After learning lots about the Galapagos and its tortoises we headed back into Puerto Ayora and bought some souvenier tshirts before we met the guide back at the pier. There was some confusion about where we were supposed to be meeting (Nathan and I thought differently to Kat and Eddy) but they turned out to be right of course!
Back aboard the boat we had dinner. Everyone felt really tired and we were all in bed by 10pm. The boat was rocking a lot which meant everyone felt quite sick too- it wasn't a nice feeling!! Hopefully we will get used to it.
