501km / 10 hrs
It was cold overnight so not the best sleep for Rog & I but the kids were fine luckily. We got up at 6:30am to a beautiful cloudless morning and sunrise over the lake. We got organised and left at 7:15am for a quick 15min drive into Kalgoorlie. Unfortunately it is Sunday and we didn't realise but pretty much everything is closed in Kalgoorlie on a Sunday (including Woolworths & coles). So we had breakfast, fuelled up and then unhitched the caravan for the first time. We weren't sure where Hay Street and the pink doors were (ie. red light district) but we happened to park our caravan pretty much out the front! Lucky it was too early on a Sunday morning for anyone to be awake!
We drove to the KCGM Super Pit Lookout and it was amazing. We couldn't get over the size of the pit and how small the trucks looked. We couldn't find out the current details as the shop was closed but the pit will eventually get to 3.5km Long, 1.5km Wide and up to 600m deep.
It was then back into the car for another driving day heading towards Perth and the coral coast. We stopped at Southern Cross for lunch and the kids had a great time playing in a park. We then drove through Central Wheatbelt so saw lot's of fields and silo's.
Unfortunately a huge oversized truck overtook us today on a road where we couldn't pull over so we have a tiny chip in our windscreen. It's only tiny and on my side so no problem.
We arrived at Meckering around 5pm where we are staying for the night and only 35 kms from Northam. We will be aiming for Jurien Bay tomorrow.
We have now travelled 4,091kms in a week so had a bit of a cranky Rog today but he has driven a long way!
