Jurien Bay - Green Head - Port Denison / Dongara - Ellendale Pool
205 kms / 4 ¾ hrs
Rain Rain Go Away....
Unfortunately today has been very wet and windy, which is a shame as we visited some beautiful beach towns. We had a relaxing morning today with the kids bike/scooter riding along the foreshore. Josh even rode his bike properly today with his feet on the peddles, and no training wheels. Rog & I were very excited for him.
We left Jurien Bay around 9:45am and headed north up the coast. It was luckily only a short drive today as the wind was very strong so moved the caravan around a lot whilst driving.
Our next stop was Greenhead (a small beach town) and a quick walk to a lookout over Dynamite Bay. The bay was very rough due to the winds and it was howling so we left quickly. Then it was onto Port Denison and Dongara. We stopped at the marina for lunch and the kids had a great time playing in the park with 2 other families who are travelling. We spoke for ages and will hopefully catch up with the families again. We saw a couple of the old buildings (russ cottage and the headmasters residence).
We were hoping to go to a Dingo encounter but the dingo's were asleep so the guy recommended that we didn't visit. I think I finally got off the phone to him after about 15 mins as he was telling me all about Dingo's but I had 2 screaming kids in the background so actually have no idea what he was telling me. I think if we had been able to go we would have probably been there for hours as the guy is very passionate about his dingo's.
We were also hoping to go to Greenough which is part of the National Trust but in the terrible rain conditions we missed the turn off (we didn't think it was very well sign posted either!).
We drove past Alinta Wind farm which has 54 Vestas 1.65 megawatt wind turbines and is capable of powering the equivalent of 60,000 homes - they are huge. Due to the extreme wind conditions they were actually turned off today but we will be driving past them again tomorrow.
On our drive today we also saw the leaning trees. Due to the prevailing southerly winds the trees grow on an angle.
We then arrived around 2:30pm at our final destination for the day which is Ellendale Pool. It's a gorgeous location but we could only get out and explore during the breaks in the rain. There are lot's of caravans here and everyone is very friendly and up for a chat.
Rog gave the caravan and car a full wash today and they are both sparkling!
