Nullarbor - Great Australian Bight - Quarantine Checkpoint - SA/WA Border - Eucla - Madura Pass - Caiguna - 90 Mile Straight - Woorlba Homestead
608kms / 10 ¼ hrs
During the night the wind was so strong and we were thinking todays driving was going to be so hard but luckily it had stopped by the time we got up at 6:40am. We were on the road by 7:15am (SA time). We set up the kids dvd players for the first time today so Josh has been very quiet watching dvds and Bronte has been busy changing to a new dvd every 5 mins! It took us about 3 hours to drive the 133km to the border as we kept stopping at different lookouts and rest areas to look at the Great Australian Bight and the Bunda Cliffs (we just can't get enough of them!!). We were lucky enough to see whales at 2 of our stops. We also filled the car up with fuel from the jerry cans so we can make it to Mundrabilla to refuel. We saw a Japanese guy riding a push bike with a lot of cargo and I had a chat with him at one of the stops. He is riding from Melbourne to Perth and thinks it will take 3 weeks.
We crossed the SA/WA border without any hiccups and nothing to dispose of at the quarantine check point. We took a few photos then drove through Eucla.
Rog overtook his first vehicle today which was a campervan - it was very exciting!! We stopped at Mundrabilla at the roadhouse for fuel and lunch. It was then onto Madura where we stopped at the lookout to look out over the Roe Plains. Then we drove past Cocklebiddy and onto Caiguna for fuel. Today's fuel was the most expensive so far at $2.01. Caiguna is also the start of Australia's longest straight road at 146.6km. We took a photo of the sign and kept going. We drove past another push bike rider but this one was heading the opposite direction. We also had to pull off the road again for another oversized truck. It rained for most of the 90 mile straight. We stopped overnight at Woorlba Homestead Rest Area (50km E of Balladonia). There were several caravans at this stop. The kids had a quick bike/scooter ride while Rog and I got set-up. It was only a quick ride as then we were hit with a thunderstorm. We cooked and ate dinner inside the caravan tonight which was salt + pepper veal rump and vegetables. Although we crossed into WA today we decided to stay on SA time today.
We saw whales, emus, eagles, parrots, pink cockatoo, galahs,
