Day 34 - Darwin to Litchfield National Park (131 km / 2 hrs)
Sadly we had to say goodbye to the Quaine Family as they are staying in Darwin. They gave us some fresh tuna that Andrew caught yesterday.
We packed up and left the caravan park at 8:15am for the short drive to Litchfield National Park where we are camping at Florence Falls.
We arrived at 10:15am and not long after we pulled up the 2 travelling couples that we met in Devils Marbles, Daly Waters and Mindle Markets pulled up next to us again. We all had a laugh that we are next to each other again.
We had some morning tea and then walked down the 160 stairs to the plunge pool at the bottom of Florence Falls. It was very pretty with the two waterfalls and the water was definitely refreshing although we warmed up quickly. Josh enjoyed swimming around trying to catch the black bass while Bronte & Rog swam to both the waterfalls and cave. I enjoyed sitting on top of a submerged rock in the middle of the water taking it all in. It then got pretty busy with people so we decided to take the Shady Creek Walk which was a beautiful little walk along shady creek and the monsoon forest and savanna woodland. We then took the Florence Creek Walk which was another nice walk along the Florence Creek to Buley Rockhole.
We had fun swimming in the different rock holes and sitting in the little waterfalls. Bronte wanted to climb up higher to the different water holes while Josh wanted to climb down to the bottom. I nearly stacked it by slipping on some rocks into a rock hole but somehow I managed to keep my balance. Rog and the kids also saw a water monitor.
We then took the direct walk back to our campsite. We had lunch (which was so yummy as it was the fresh tuna sashimi with red onion, cherry tomatoes and soy sauce) and then the kids went and chatted to the 2 couples we keep camping next to. They are all lovely and thankfully have grandkids back home so they are happy to hang out with our kids.
We then walked back down the stairs to the plunge pool at Florence Falls for another swim and then back to the campsite.
Josh was very lucky to be given a fishing rod from some German backpackers who are flying back home. He was so excited. One of the couples didn’t want Bronte to feel left out so he gave her a harmonica. Bronte was so excited and enjoyed serenading us while we cooked dinner.
We had dinner then watched a movie
