After a slow morning in the caravan doing cutting and pasting we left around 9:30am to discover some of the other waterfalls at Litchfield National Park.
First stop was Buley Rockhole which is a series of small waterfalls and rockholes. We had a great time in one of the rockholes and sitting in one of the waterfalls. We forgot the kids rings and noodles and only had their life jackets which was great in the end. Josh has finally got the confidence to swim with just the life jacket on now. So he was doing lot's of swimming by himself which was great.
Next stop was Florence Falls which is a spectacular double waterfall set amid monsoon rainforest. We stopped at the viewing platform first and then walked down the 130 steps to the bottom of the waterfalls. Josh continued gaining more confidence with his swimming whilst Bronte and I perched on an underwater rock and Rog swam out to both the waterfalls. We were also entertained by lots of people jumping off the rocks and one guy even jumping off the waterfall.
Our next stop was Tolmer Falls which cascades over two separate escarpments into a distant plunge pool where several colonies of rare and protected ghost bats and horseshoe bats live. Because of this there is no swimming and only access to a viewing platform at the top of the falls.
We headed back to the caravan for lunch and a bit of downtime due to the heat. We were going to go to Cascades after lunch but another couple said that it's a bit of a walk and won't be too easy with the kids so instead we sat under the shady trees in the picnic area whilst the kids coloured in and we spoke to two other couples who are staying near us.
We were then ready for another swim so we walked back to Wangi Falls (which has a large freshwater pool fed by two high falls) and had a great time relaxing in the water. Josh swam by himself (with his floatie though) all the way over to the waterfall to meet Rog and then later he did the same swim with Rog and this time with just his life jacket on. It's a big swim and I didn't even want to swim near the waterfalls as I thought it was way too far! Not long before we hopped out of the water there were lot's of kites and buzzards flying above the water and scooping down catching the butterflies.
We decided to go along the bush walk for a short distance so Josh could see some bats and it was a nice bushwalk through the rainforest so was well shaded. We were planning on walking to a treetop lookout but when we were nearly there we saw a wild pig near the track so decided to turn around and head back. Josh saw lot's of bats so he was happy although he did want to keep walking too.
We headed back to the caravan for left-over risotto and crumbed fish for Josh and we ate it in the picnic area again.
