Day 22 - Gemtree to Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) 402km/5.5hrs
We were up at 6am waiting for the sun to rise so we could hit the road. We could finally leave at 7am and headed down the dual single lane road back to the Stuart Highway. We had to pull off the road a few times for cars to pass. We only saw 2 kangaroos. We then turned right onto the Stuart Highway and headed north. We stopped at Aileron to see the aboriginal statues that are 17 metres high. There is one of ‘The Big Man’ on the hill and another of a mother and child. We continued driving and then had to stop and wait for cattle to cross the Stuart Highway. We fuelled at Ti Tree where we first had to pay for our fuel before you can fill up. It was at someone’s property so Josh enjoyed patting the dogs and pigs while Rog filled up. We then stopped at Wycliffe Wells which is known for its UFO sightings. On our drive we drove past an aboriginal community that had rubbish everywhere. We were shocked and even other campers were talking about it too. We arrived at Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) around 12:30pm. There weren’t too many campers so we were able to get a nice spot in the shade.
We had lunch and then walked around Karlu Karlu and up the lookout and climbed around the granite boulders. We were going to do the longer walk but ended up talking to some grey nomads for about an hour while the kids built there own devils marbles with rocks.
We played cards and had dinner then enjoyed watching the sunset over the devils marbles. We watched a movie and then went outside to look at the stars and they were very pretty.
