Day 19 - Alice Springs
Today Rog & Bronte had a relaxing day at the caravan park while Josh and I went to the Alice Springs Desert Park. The Desert Park is all the animals and landscapes found in the Centre of Australia.
First we went to the Dingo talk and next we went to the Emu talk. Then the highlight of the day was the Free Flight Bird Show in the Nature Theatre. Such a beautiful location with the MacDonnell Ranges in the background.
We saw lots of birds flying around and our favourite was the wedged tail eagle and peregrine falcon.
The rest of our time was spent following the track around the park. There were walk through bird aviaries, aquariums and kangaroos.
Our next highlight was the big nocturnal house. We were lucky to be there at feeding time. We watched 2 different snakes eat a rat and mouse and although it was pretty disgusting to watch it was very intriguing so I couldn’t look away. Our favourites were the thorny devil and the bilby. There were lots of snakes, bats, rats, mice, spiders, scorpions, geckos, bandicoots etc.
We also watched a movie on the journey through the creation of Australia’s deserts.
We were at the park for about 5 hours. Then on our way back to the caravan park we stopped at Kmart to replace our broken kettle. It stopped working at the perfect time seeing as though there was a Kmart in town.
When we got back to the caravan park we had lunch and then went to the pool and waterslide. Rog did some laps and the kids went down the slide until they were too cold.
I did lots of washing and cleaned up the van and then took the kids to the games afternoon. We played draughts, chess and twister and then the kids stayed to watch the movie while I cooked them home made pizzas for dinner.
After dinner we went back to Kmart and did our groceries and fuelled the car ready for our departure tomorrow.
