We dread these guys, more than ever before. The mosquitoes here seem to be little ninja-versions of the variety back home, which were loud, slow, and easily killed or avoided. The local "tiger" or "forest day" mosquito, Aedes albopictus seems to be smaller, but faster, stealthier and in general just harder to kill. Once you get one into you house it seems like the only way to kill it is to offer yourself as a sacrifice and wait for the eventual sting.
Many a night I have lay in bed, just listening to the high pitch whine… waiting… hoping for my chance to end it before it itches! While killing via the "swat method" is difficult, there are a variety of products to keep the bugs at bay. To start with, mosquito and bug repellent, and related items are omni-present, and can be purchased in most convenience stores. If they have a section name for such items, it may be 日用品コーナー, but this does depend on the store in question, and your best bet maybe using the words KA and MUSHI Corner; mosquito and bug respectively. They should get the idea you are looking to kill insects!
Better still, Lina, a primary school girl told me about an application one can get on their phone that sends of a frequency which humans really can't hear unless volue is on max and it is held onto one's ear in silence. You won't believe it, it works like a charm! Now I can sit outside, with my phone humming away 'silently' in my pocket, and stay itch-free :-)

Gill Oh no! That sounds like a nightmare. I hate mozzies! Wonder if the cellphone app would work on our mozzies ;-)
