Tam purchased this 1L bottle assuming it was cooking oil; only to discover it is Sake (pronounced sah-kee) is a Japanese wine made from fermented rice! From my first sniff I thought Apple Cider Vinegar...to which I found a use thereof for killing weeds in the garden. I had'nt quite culminated to the point of use when discovered it is Japanese SAKE :)
It's made in a fashion similar to beer but uses rice in place of barley (which is fermented to make beer). Sake-brewers add malt, yeast, and water to steamed rice, and allow the mixture to ferment to convert the starch in the rice into alcohol.
The result is a light-yellow liquid with a slightly sweet taste that can be enjoyed hot or cold. Depending on the brand, sake's alcohol content can range from 12% to 16%.
While sake is widely used as a beverage, it is also commonly used in Japanese cooking, usually in sauces or marinades. I have found an alternate usage thereof :-)

Peta MAN be careful of that stuff! It's usually served warm in a small porcelain cup.... that's how I had it once at a Japanese restaurant in London. Although you're there for the real deal so you can tell me! It is lethal!!!!!!!!!
Hazel i think Tam knew EXACTLY what she was buying!
Gill Hahaha! Nice Hazel, I agree :-D
Tamz Sadly this is the cooking version...isn't that poor quality headache material? not keen! I did have sake on our anniversary dinner, only one glass, and it sure is lethal! One glass knocked me flying! I had to finish it, cos it's not cheap! But clearly i made a cheap date!
