We left early and did a scenic drive down to Greymouth. We stopped at Hawks Crag where we found a seal colony - they are very inactive mammals! - and there was also a sign with the various distances of world cities which Mia and I pretended to pole dance round for a photo. We then stopped off at Punakaiki for its famous blowholes and Pancake rocks in Papapoa National Park which was really impressive.
We arrived at Greymouth and checked into a backpacker hostel and had very garish colours on the walls. We were supposed to have a brewery tour but because of the large numbers of us Nat rang the Railway pub and they said that they'd do us a dinner with beer and cider tasting for $20. I had a really good fish and chips and then we sat and tried different Monteith brewery beers and cider and learnt facts about them from a very softly spoken barman. We then got one beer/cider free and $9 jugs of beer. Despite my aversion to beer I chose the sweetest tasting one to share with Kyrstn.
The bar then put on some games and we drew numbers out of a hat to determine the teams. I was on a team with Catherine, Sarah, Kalda ( a Scottish girl), Gareth, Marius, Nazreen and Phillip (a German guy). The first round consisted of one member of each team (which was Gareth from our team) having to draw parts of a kiwi separately whilst being blindfolding to build the whole bird up. The second round was a quix about the beers that we had tasted which was unfortunate as Catherine, Sarah and I hadn't really been listening as he was really quiet and we were busy chatting. Then there was a round of drawing a sheep starting with the head then the legs, tail etc and lastly it was putting been mats into order that they appear on tap.
We then had so much fun dancing on the dance floor without any inhibitions at all. We danced in a circle and the locals watched at the back of the bar and a few guys from a stag do (including the stag who was dressed as Santa himself) joined in. Dan and Morten busted some hilarious moves like the sprinkler and when the Run DMC song came on we all got on we all went in the middle of the circle and did our own dance move. Catherine did an Irish riverdance and Stefan did some hip hop moves. We spent most of the night on the dance floor and were quite worn out by midnight so we decided to call it a night then. We walked via the seafront and saw Santa collapsed on the floor! Catherine and Marius went onto another bar and the rest of us headed back to the hostel. Some of the others were in the hostel bar so Sarah and I joined them for another drink before calling it a night.
