We left the hostel at 9:30am to head to Milford Sounds. We stopped at Te Anou, a small lakeside resort for lunch, sitting out overlooking the lake, and then had a 2 hour journey to Milford. The scenery was amazing as you could see the snow-capped mountains and lakes the whole way. We stopped off a couple of times for photo's. At one stop we jumped off whilst the lights were red as we had to wait to go through a really long tunnel as it was single laned and then we had about a minute to take the photo before Digger beeped twice to signal that we had to get back on immediately or he was going.
We arrived for the cruise just before 3pm and boarded a three-levelled boat. Catherine and I had to pose for a couple's shot as we boarded the boat, which amused us. We wereso lucky with the weather as it was beautiful sunshine and bright blue sky whereas it's normally one of the wettest places with over 200 days of rain a year. We stood at the front of the boat and when you got near the edge to take a photo it was so windy. We got some amazing photo's of the Fiordland National Park and all the mountains had incredible waterfalls running down them. I took so many photo's as it was such beautiful scenery. The boat went as far as the open sea, where the captain told us that it would take 4-5 days to travel to Australia from that point by sea.
I then went with Catherine and the English group and Huw to the front of the boat on a lower deck and when the boat got realy close to a waterfall we got really wet. The cruise lasted two hours and was so good.
We then drove to Gunn's Camp which is a really remote camp that was built for the families of the workers who built the roads in the area. It's a really quirky place with the river acting as a fridge for your milk and drinks, small cabins to sleep in, and amusing signs like 'Irish skydiver' next to some fake legs coming out of the ground, and a little forest track. Digger cooked a group bangers and mash whilst we went for a quick walk round the area and then chilled out with some girly magazines.
After dinner we went and sat round a bonfire and listened to music. Digger then took a small group of us down the forest track to see some glowworms.
