In the morning we headed over to the west coast to go to Raglan which is a world famous surf area.We stopped at Paeroa which is where New Zealand's famous fizzy drink L&P originated and stopped at the café for a cuppa then Sarah and I took photos of each other in front of the giant bottle sign.We then merged buses so that there were 37 of us all one bus and I sat at the back of the bus with the boys.We then stopped at Hamilton (NZ's fourth largest city - which means it's not very big!) where Laura was staying so I said goodbye to her and then asked Sarah and Catherine if they wanted to buy food to cook together later that evening. We grabbed stuff from the supermarket for fajita's and then saw Stefan who asked if he could join us for dinner too.
We arrived at our accommodation in Raglan which was called Karioi Lodge which was in the bush overlooking the Whale Bay surf area.Catherine and Sarah suggested us staying in a room together so we booked into our room and for body boarding too.We waited down at reception with the guys who were doing surfing and got driven down to the beach.I was grateful for a wet suit as it wasn't the warmest day soI could imagine the water was going to be cold! The three of us attempted body boarding but it was harder than expected as the waves were huge and the current really strong so it took a while to get out to the good waves and the waves didn't always take you all the way in shore so you had to head out to sea again.I saw Ryan a few times as held never surfed before and had just hired a board to teach himself - he was finding it tough but had managed to get on the board a few times. We took a quick break and then headed out again and were in the water a few hours. When we got out the boys had already given up long before and it was horrible taking off our wetsuits and showering as it was so cold!
To warm up we jumped into the sauna at the Lodge to thaw out and then had a nice warm shower!Stefan and us girls cooked our fajita's and then sat with the others in the dining area. There was a DJ playing in the communal area who was playing some techno music so I went and asked if he took requests but his music taste was very different from mine so I opted for some old school. There was a pool table in the living area so I suggested to the boys about playing a game and I was on Devon's team against Ryan and Stefan.I hadn't played for so long that I couldn't really hit the ball so Ryan showed me how to position my hand and I did much better the next time around. We then swapped teams around and when I had to reach for a difficult shot I had to put my leg over the table and this became my special move as the guys found it funny.I then gotSarah to play against me and it was really funny as we were both really bad and were really girly about it clapping and encouraging each other in contrast to the boys who were trying to beat each other.WE had quite a few games and by about 11pm there were only 6 of us from the bus left up and we went to bed just after midnight.
