Day 3 London
Started another rainy day by the Thames at breakfast. Thankfully the rain doesn't last all day and by the time we get to the changing of the guards it was sunny. (well as sunny as it has been) The changing of the guards is such a big deal, there are thousands of tourists everywhere. Just as well we had read to get there early for a good spot. We were purched on top of a wall outside of the square, close enough to see the balcony where Will and Kate kissed after the wedding. Just before 11:30 we heard the sound of a marching band and down the Mall comes the band in red coats with a mounted police escort. They enter the palace gates right near us. Lots goes on that we can't really see so we decide to head up the mall. On the way we see more guards and they are just amazing. The discipline and focus is impressive. After all that we head across St James park and were astounded by a squirrel. It kept us amused for quite a while. Today we have been a lot more relaxed and haven't had to chase Phil quite as much. We continue up past the war rooms and walk through the horses guard area. Another royal wedding moment. Next we walked up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square. It is all feeling a bit surreal as we see the arch from my jigsaw puzzle. Lunched in the Square then checked out a street performer and the National Gallery before listening to a harpsichord being tuned in St Martins of the Field. We head back down towards Westminster Abbey ready for Evensong. More royal wedding moments as we enter through the door that Kate entered and walk past the choir seats. Evensong choral work was stunning and it was fabulous just to sit, reflect and listen.
Back for our last trip on the tube and a look at Tate gallery before heading back to our hotel for some pizza.(real pizza) We will be glad to get out of the city tomorrow.
Having a little issue with the car that we had to call Annie about but she has it under control.
