Day 6
Edinburgh
This morning we set off from Stockton headed for Scotland. There was an air of excitement as we headed up the coast of England sometimes looking out onto the North Sea for miles. We had a look at Holy Island but couldn't get across because of the tide. The causeway is only open during certain times when the tide is low and the tide changes very quickly so you can't take any risks. Holy Island is where the vikings first landed in England and it also plays a significant role in the history of Christianity.
We left there and headed north to the walled town of Berwick upon Tweed. It is an historical town on the banks of the Tweed river. It also had nice cheap coffee and more accents for us to study.
Our next brief stop was the border of Scotland. Took the necessary photos and continued on to Edinburgh. On the way we dropped into a shop called ASDA. It was the most amazing shop with everything you can imagine not just food but clothes and vacuum cleaners etc. And it was cheap. Just 1 pound for 12 bread rolls! That's the equivalent of $1.50. We stocked up as we don't have any preordered breakfast in Edinburgh.
The accomodation here is a bit squeezy but reasonable. The kids are getting a bit impatient with each other which at times causes frustrations at times so we are trying to get outdoors as much as possible.
It is sunny in Edinburgh which is a welcome change from the rain we had on the way up. It was actually a little warm in the sun if you could get out of the wind which is chilly.
It won't get dark until after 10pm which will be interesting for sleeping.
Tomorrow washing then the castle.
Feeling home in Scotland.
