Today began like yesterday (for me, Damo opted for a sleep in) with morning pranayama and yoga. Rather than stay at our Oasis, I hopped down the hill into town for a morning class, at Yoga Shiva. It was so good if for no other reason but at the end we hung upside down for five minutes on these swings. I LOVE hanging upside down! I bought a five class pass, pretty much so I could sit through 85 minutes of yoga (which included MORE pranayama--a bit too much after the early session) for 1000 rupees (about $17).
We had our typical breakfast of muesli with fresh fruit and yogurt, Kombucha, and a green tea, and we went to pay only to realise we had run out of money. Doh!
After promising to return to pay the remainder of our balance, we headed down into town only to find out both of the ATM machines in Bhagsu weren't working.
Oh nooooooo, we had to walk down to McLeod Ganj, a mere 24-hours after we (or at least Damo) vowed NEVER to return. We made it safely down and went to a series of cash machines, non of which were in service. We were advised to go to the end of town to the ATM. Well we couldn't miss it. A queue of over 30 people stood in line to use the machine. "Let's go back home and change our US dollars", Damo requested. Knowing we didn't have enough US cash to make it for ten days, inevitably having to return later, I politely denied his request by saying "hell no, we staying". It actually wasn't that bad as we got closer we saw there were two machines and we only waited about half an hour.
While we were waiting, a funny thing happened. Damo had gone to a public toilet on the way, which cost five rupees. Not having any money he promised to return. While in the line, I decided to walk back down there to use the loo and he barred my entry. He said NO repeatedly while I begged. I promised we would pay and explained how we were in the queue for the ATM (clearly visible by most of town, since it was so long!). NO NO NO he said, looking down embarrassingly, or rudely, I'm not sure. Some guys standing there took my side (I think) and started talking in Hindi gesturing to me, the toilet, and saying "ATM machine". The teller again said NO NO NO, and my new friend looked at me as if to say "sorry". Well I'M SORRY but no one wants to see a white girl squat in the street (that would NOT be appropriate obviously) or pee her pants. I pushed by the teller and ran into a (squat) toilet, locking the door before he could chase me (he tried, I was too quick). Then he started banging on the door. I was so embarrassed! He gave up and I did my business. When I walked out he was back in his chair, and refused to look at me as I walked out. I thanked him and promised to pay. And I swear that was the first thing we did after getting our cash! He thanked Damo when he handed him the money but again wouldn't look at me. I felt a little bad but a little not because I REALLY had to go and there was nowhere else in town!
Yesterday I got a hot tip from someone that there was a health food store in McLeod that sold homemade dark chocolate! It was called Osho's and stumbled upon it and purchase some! Can't wait to try it later.
After paying our breakfast debt, three hours later, we decided to walk to the nearby down of Durumcott, up the hill and off to the side of Bhagsu. It takes about half an hour or so. We found a nice rooftop restaurant (Damo wants to know why more homes don't make rooftop spaces...he loves them) and had veggie burgers. Loving the homemade patties they do here! After lunch Damian found a guitar, so I sat for an hour why he played me love songs (how romantic!). ;)
After our lunch I made it back for another session of Yin yoga...SOOO relaxing!
The evening continued much like the last with gas-bagging (btw this is an Aussie term for chatting or gossiping) with people at the hotel, then walking down the hill for dinner and dessert.
Again tomorrow may likely be much of the same. Goodnight!
