Damian and I began the day with a two-hour pranayama and meditation session. It was mostly pranayama with a half-hour meditation at the end. Which is exactly what I wanted. I plan to go everyday, or at least regularly! That was from 6:30-8:30am. Damo went on a walk after while I stayed and took a vinyasa class from Jenna, a young woman, around my age. There was an old Indian man there; he was taking the meditation course and had sat through the pranayama with us. He must have been at least 80 years old, no lie. It was pretty impressive to see him going at the yoga like a teen. Well not exactly that spry but I was impressed, nevertheless.
After yoga, Damian and I met for breakfast of muesli with fresh fruit and natural yogurt at Om Cafe. It was so good.
Unfortunately my throat has still been sore with exudate on the tonsils, so we walked to the pharmacy in McLeod Ganj, so I could get more drugs. Damo days, NEVER AGAIN! After spending three days in Bhagsu with no cars, the one-lane, two-way winding road down to McLeod Ganj barely fits one car, let alone two, let alone two cars and pedestrians (and mules, goats and cows)! It was dusty and dirty and so loud, for every car honks constantly, whether it's warranted or not. We quickly bought what we needed and got back to Bhagsu quick like!
I was pretty worn after that so I napped. Damo wrote and read.
Our late lunch consisted of humus falafel and pita. I forgot to mention that this is a very popular destination amongst Israeli, young and old. Mostly young though and, they come here for months at a time and just chill, easily losing track of time. So almost every restaurant has an Israeli section on the menu, which suits me just fine. I could eat humus and falafel every day...and I probably will.
We took a short walk after lunch but I tired so returned after only half an hour while Damo continued. I wanted to go to a Yin yoga class! I really love Yin yoga. You hold each posture for three to five minutes. It's very relaxing. Usually you are sitting or lying the entire hour. This class was also taught by Jenna, our resident Californian yoga instructor. Like the pranayama, I plan to make a regular appearance.
After Yin I sat and gas-bagged with the two Californians (Jenna and Marcy) for a few hours before dinner. I learned a lot. They are here for three months, and are about five weeks into it. They informed us they rarely go down into Bhagsu because they find it too crazy! What?!?! Coming from Kathmandu, and passing through McLeod on the way, how could Bhagsu be so crazy? They don't even allow cars past a certain point? They gave advice as to which yoga studios to try and which not to. They are also the folks who told us people come for months and months at a time, doing nothing but drinking chai, doing yoga, and partying all night. This place is a party at night? Where have I been? I suppose we haven't seen too much of this (and don't care to) since we are usually in bed around 9-10pm. I did think it odd that big groups of people seemed to be having breakfast at a late hour but thought they, like us, have been doing yoga and meditation. I doubt we will partake as both of us came here to relax, regroup, and rebalance. Who knows though, I've been known to have a wild hair or two.
Tomorrow will be much like today and I can't wait!
Till then.
