After 4 days in Croatia we have decided that we do like it here very much. It's very clean & fresh. People mow their lawns and have gardens. The roads are good and the sides are cut. In the south the mountains rise from the sea and are very rocky and they look very hot, as the temperature of 38 - 40 would confirm. In the north the mountains are covered with forest, snow in winter, and it feels a little cooler!!! Yesterday we found a lovely lake and had a couple of swims and lunch before motoring to a national park. Walked for two kilometers, on a board walk, under the forest trees and saw the most amazing waterfalls. The river system came from a lake from many directions and was spectacular. I wilted in the heat but eventually managed to get back to the van. We found a great camp site, cheap and with a new ablution block. And today we have driven through another national park and seen more spectacular scenery. We are now back on the coast and heading along the "Pula" peninsular before going into Slovinia and the Lippazaner horses. Have just had a swim and at 5.30.p.m. it is the most delightful temperature. People are getting their firewood ready for next winter, we've never seen so much cut wood stacked up. It must get very cold here, we've seen the pictures and it looks gorgeous. There is some evidence of the 1991 - 1993 wars. Some of the effected buildings still stand with bullet holes and roofs missing. Seems to be mostly in the isolated farming communities in the north, however Dubrovnic bears scars also.
