Montenegro
We finally arrived in Montenegro at about 10.30pm after being stuffed around by the border controls coming thru Kosovo. We were something like 2500 metres up in the mountains when we went thru this rather obscure border crossing ( which is where they send poor unsuspecting Kiwis so they can fleece them of more cash) They wanted 30EU to get into their country. I told them that we had no Euros left due to the beautiful fleece job performed by the very friendly customs people at Kosovo. We finally agreed on 20US and off we went. The nearest village was 20kms away. Finally arrived there at about 11.30 at night and we found this nice carpark that we thought we could sleep for the night. I had hardly turned the motor off when this gentleman comes out off the shadows and informs us it is going to cost us 1euro (receipt included) to stay there for the night. After having spent nearly 16 hours getting from Macedonia to there we were not going to argue.
The next morning we woke to a very misty and quite cool morning. We had a quick look around the village and then set off. SPECTACULAR doesn't quite describe the scenery. We were just about level with the top of the mountains, some off which still had snow on them when we started. We wound our way down thru these incredible mountain passes, along side this crystal clear river till we finally arrived at Podgorica the capital of Montenegro.
We decided to carry on out to the coast to find a nice place to stay for the night. Unfortunately it was about the same time as a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger had an argument with a barrier. We spent the next 3and half hours sitting waiting for them to clear up the mess. Finally got under way, passed the Suzuki GSX 1000 which was wedged under the safety barrier between the road and the railway track. Apparently both died at the scene. All very sobering. So it ended up another long day behind the wheel, which apart from the accident was some off the most spectacular scenery we have seen so far. We can thoroughly recommend Montenegro to everyone. Just come by boat though
