We set off this morning for Cleveland taking the long way round, just for a change lol
Dodging the tolls on the interstate we took some dodgy back roads around Toledo and got stuck at a railway crossing for a quarter hour when a huge goods train stopped halfway blocking the crossing.
Eventually the train moved and we were again on our way. We passed some low lying marshy ground and a very full river. A large nuclear power plant dominated for quite some distance with its white steam plume reaching high into the sky. Again there's a lot of what appeared to be abandoned homes and businesses through this area.
We passed over a few long bridges that spanned inlets from lake Eire passing much more prosperous looking holiday towns.
Its Saturday, in Sandusky around lunch time we passed the original margaritaville. The car park was full of bikes and bikers the bar was so busy they had stations set up in the car park to serve food and drinks. Elsewhere people were at gatherings in the park, mowing lawns etc; typical warm (27C) suburban Saturday stuff.
We went through the city of Huron - unusual given we are going around Lake Erie...
We stopped for lunch in a park by the lake and were joined by a couple of squirrels. The park was very well kept and a couple of park police of some sort were patrolling in a golf cart making sure everyone was behaving.
We turned off the lakeside road and headed into Cleveland with our GPS set to the Rock and roll hall of fame. It took us to the airport where there were signs about the rnr and huge guitars etc We parked and went looking for it but couldn't find any signs or info so we asked and got told it was downtown! Stupid GPS!! We used the free wifi to get an actual address, retrieved the car and were soon there.
For only the second time this trip we asked if they did exmilitary discounts and got $8 off for Pete! Yesterday at the zoo he was free and I got a dollar discount so it's def worth asking about. It was pretty cool, lots of displays but there seemed to be a lot of artists we'd never heard of and many we expected to see extensively showcased hardly there eg: Bowie, Kiss, BeeGees, Joe Cocker and many more. Still it was interesting.
Continuing our day of missing things by "that much" we then headed to the Cultural Park only to find it shuts at 4pm so we just headed off to our hotel in Richfield which is close to the national park we are wanting to check out tomorrow, checked in, cooked dinner and settled in for the night.
