Dolphins, Rays, Turtles, & Crystal clear waters
Roads are quieter, views amazing, getting hotter. Amazing coast line, clean and packed with marine life. Still no snakes, but plenty of emu's, roos, birds of prey and lizards. The roads are so long & quiet, it seems standard to raise a finger from the steering wheel, or give a wave to passing vehicles, all the ozzies seem to do it, friendly bunch. Road kill is never ending, cant believe roos arent an endangered species.
Monkey Mia was great, wild dolphins come upto the waters edge for the park wardens, where they're rewarded with a fish or two, a fraction of what they eat. This means they don't always come to the shallows, lucky for us 4 or 5 did come in. Rays, Pelicans, out numbered the dolphins. Tiger sharks are residnet in the bay, up to 3.5m.....took a few minutes of scanning the water before we got in for a bit of skim ball and fishing....caught a tiddler (should of seen the one that got away!).
Coral Bay was the next stop...lush. Pulled over on the drive in to witness large turtles (Green, Hawksbill, Loggerhead & Flatback) swimming just off the shore line waiting for darkness, to come up the beach to lay eggs. Further down the coast was the amazing reefs of turquoise bay. Snorkelling was great, loads of corals, fish, and rays. Rays didnt seem scared of us....we made sure we kept a look out, as it would be easy to stand on them. Ryan had a few minutes of bobbing about over the reef waiving his snorkel....'some thing wrong this snorkel?' He had a duff snorkel and was sucking in water, we still managed to spot loads of fish, blue spotted rays, octopus, and loads of different soft and hard corals. Mich had a stand off out the back of the visitors centre, walked out the loo (suprise suprise) into the path of a large Kangaroo...the Roo won the stand off .
Exmouth was our next night stop. Lovely site, shared with Emu's. Nights are getting hotter the further North we go....out back will be interesting! Karijini NP here we come....
