The weekend at Noosa was a good get away, we made a fire on the beach and brought the goon and music out, but had to be careful as you're not technically allowed fires on the beach so everytime a helicopter flew over we had to kick sand on it to put it out, but got away with it!
Still no work, not even a sniff, starting to get quite frustrated now, even basic temp work isn't coming in. Steve on the other hand has had some good news but at the same time frustrating news. We had a drive around and dropped his CV off to companies that maintain bakery and catering equipment and had a good response from Morgan's who have maintenance contract with Coles supermarket and coincidentally are also partners with City Holdings who have just branched out to Australia and who Steve used to work for 3 years ago. They basically said that they wanted him to come in and talk about offering him the job, GREAT!!!
It turns out that they thought he already had his licence even though it was in his cover note he was going through the process at the moment. They have said he needs his licence before they can take him on, which is fair enough, so we're back at square one but with a company who will employ him once he has his licence.
Like a dog with a bone I've searched the internet for info on how we go about this and he needs to get an Australian Recognised Trades Certificate as an electrical fitter / mechanic, these are granted by theTrades Recognition Australia and only available for people inside Australia, you need to complete a 13 page form with all details of past employment, copies of all your qualifications, statutory declaration and any other supporting documentation this will then go to a board of electricians who will decide your fate.
We got all the info together with huge thanks to Steve's dad for clambering around in the loft to get Steve's City and Guilds certificates scanned and sent over, wrote the statutory declaration and went to the court for it to be certified and got a reference from Steve past employer, sent this off along with $300 and expect a verdict in 30 days. Not too painful.
