Steve goes travelling
After an 11 hour greyhound over night from Byron to Sydney we had to wait around 7 hours at the airport to get our flight from Sydney to Melbourne. As you can see from the pics below there’s a nice one of Garth doing an impression of a tramp with his towel over his legs in the airport. Once we arrive we got on a tram and made our way to St Kilda which is about 20 mins from the CBD (central business district, that’s the buzz word in Oz for-the centre!) and1min away from the beach. We stayed at Base backpackers which was a really nice place, pretty modern and good rooms. The cricket was on and then over while we were here - ashes lost with ease! Well done England!I didn’t actually make it in to town for a night out but went out in St Kilda most nights; it’s a pretty young place. Garth made it in one night and had a wicked night; I had a 'quiet' one in and stayed in the bar downstairs till 2 with some Scots and Irish. The Irish girls we met in our room were really funny, they had been there for a week but hadn’t really been out - when we said we were going to the museum and also observation tower they found this funny - hmm. They were really cool girls tho and had the better of me on the sarcasm stakes - damn them! We did however get our own back when we left by messing their beds up (true school boy style) and putting all our rubbish on their ultra clean and made up beds....Garth even chucked in an old pair of boxers for good measure!!Apart from the museums n what not I also met up with Vicky the Ozzie girl we d met in Byron and she showed me round her area - about an hours train ride out of Melbourne, I arrived in Frankston - which she immediately assured me she didn’t come from...apparently its quite a backwards kinda place! (as soon as I came out of the station some weirdo started muttering some stuff to me!) . Most of the places 5 or 10mins drive from her town were stunning and some she hadn’t even been to! Was pretty cool being actually shown round a place and not being on a guided tour or having to walk!As those on facebook will have seen already we did indeed manage to get to the neighbours night where we met todie, hazza and Lin and then the neighbours day where Janelle popped in. The night was wicked, probably more so cos we hadn’t really eaten properly and had a 'few' beers! Unfortunately on the tour my battery gave up half way through (I was taking pics of bloody everything, piece of mud on the neighbours set - click, where Harold may have walked...click) so the rest of them will be on garths profile - no public link at the mo cos he’s messed it up! The actual street is bloody tiny but the houses are identical and real people live in them - they get compensated for it tho, id hope loads with two tours a day and randoms just turning up! Melbourne’s definitely a cool city, if work doesn’t work out in Sydney or I stay longer then Melbourne may well be on the map again - im also thinking of going back for the Australian Open in Jan and also the formula one if im still here. http://nottinghamac.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2085594&l=0b4e7&id=199703881http://essex.facebook.com/album.php?aid=4669&l=3b133&id=283600208 http://essex.facebook.com/album.php?aid=4668&l=347b2&id=283600208
