First few days we stayed in Cairns at an ok hostel, what I would expect for 16 dollars really. The place itself hasn't got all that much nightlife or even a beach! but has a lagoon thing they've built. We got free meals with our hostel at a bar in town, town being 15mins from the hostel. As you can imagine the portions were tiny! Altho for 5 dollars you could upgrade to a proper meal - this is what a lot of hostels/bars do really.
From here we booked about 3days trip - up to cape tribulation for one night where as soon as we got there we went on 'jungle surf' where you are on a zip line through the jungle, was good but not all that fast. Then in the evening we did a jungle walk in the dark, with a tour guide and some flash lights, he pointed out all the different things - saw a snake, ants, spiders and lizards, was pretty cool. Ohh also on the way up our bus driver, an ozzie, talked the whole time telling us loads of different facts etc, was quite interesting. We also went on a lake thing to spot some crocodiles and saw one............about the length of my arm! Also there was one in the water but I could only just make out its head. Have yet to see a kangaroo (altho I ate one last night, very very nice meat!)
After this we spent two nights in Port Douglas which is a bit more upmarket and where millionaires live etc. Garth wanted to do a scuba dive but wasn't allowed in the end because he has a collapsed lung a few years ago from rugby! We both did the snorkelling though out on the reef.....
After this we headed back to Cairns for a night and stayed at this hostel in town, I say hostel = more like a hotel but with 6 peop per room, was 27 dollars but very very nice, im not bothered tho and would rather spend less! So we got the greyhound yesterday and 2 hours later were in mission beach, nice enough place but not much to do either! Garth is doing a day of rapids today so I've just been round here, just been hanging around with some Manchester blokes who have just finished uni as well, they're off tomorrow and were staying for another night. We keep on bumping into people at different places that we've met at other hostels etc, pretty cool.
I've booked myself on for a skydive tomorrow morning (which will be around 10pm your time I think) and tis 14000 feet, im getting the dvd etc thought I might as well, but the bonus of this one is that you land on the beach, looks pretty cool. Could do with moving on tomorrow as nothing to do but we've booked in for three nights, we'll see http://nottinghamac.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2068331&l=0bb64&id=199703881 http://essex.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1857&l=821a5&id=283600208
