Steve goes travelling
Byron Bay was a three hour greyhound away (or so it said on the itinerary). The driver once again wasn’t too much of a nutter but he also didn’t talk, (which later on was a bit annoying as he hadn’t told us the hour went forward! The journey was in fact only 2hours really)
Byron was completely different from Surfers in that it actually had some good scenery and views and a wicked beach, many more surfers here as well! We checked in to Main Beach backpackers into a 16bed dorm with communal showers this time so no worries about someone being in there all the time! In the room we met some other guys from Essex, Rommy, Brentwood and Gidea Park who had been travelling from Darwin in their van - they were with another van and both were going the same route. Some of their stories about camping and being drunk by midday and crashing into their tents were pretty amusing! We also met a few couples from Reading and some Ozzie girls from Melbourne who were on holiday for a week.
For the first few nights we went to the Beach hotel bar which was really nice with good music and shows, but closed at 12:30. So it was on to Cheeky Monkeys = a bit of a lame backpackers bar, extremely cheesy and no dance floor.....but....it had tables and chairs which you dance on - nice! Unfortunately we ended up here a few nights in a row!
One night near the end after a few too many beers we all got back to the dorm and fell asleep....only to be woken about 30mins or so later by THE most horrendous screaming and weird noises. We all woke up and were wondering what the f*** was going on...I thought the noise had come from this weird bloke across from me so was just looking over there for movement - another girl that we knew now was saying 'turn on the light im scared' then other were saying shut up etc....needless to say in a room of 12 blokes and 4 girls everyone was too scared or tired to be bothered getting up! (we put it down to a nightmare altho it could have been a stabbing, who knows!) Lucy the girl that had asked for the light to be turned on the next day said she didn’t dare move after that and even tho was uncomfortable fell asleep on her front!
That night was also very eventful cos apparently the room next door had erupted as well = but their treat was some foreign chap deciding to go for a number 1 all over someone else’s bed & I think the girl in it! Needless to say the manager was nun too happy the next day and threw the bloke out! (he doesn’t remember it!ha)
Been for a few walks n stuff along the beach here - well nice views and also went up to the Lighthouse where I saw some more dolphins n tortoises
Managed not to go to cheekies every night and ended up in LaLaLand the other night = highly recommended bar with good house music
Leaving tonight for a nice 13hour bus ride to Sydney, for about 5 hours then a flight to Melbourne before doing all that jazz (neighbours tour wooo) http://nottinghamac.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2085595&l=591aa&id=199703881
