Manning Gorge 27/6/15
A short drive this morning, time to pull into Galvans Gorge, just a short walk in from The Gibb but worth it. A small waterfall and rock pool set amongst boabs and granite rocks and the downstream covered with water lilies. Mt Barnett Roadhouse is one of just several fuel stops on The Gibb, plenty of supplies available, even espresso coffee and importantly the current results for NRL and AFL. Fuel is available at a couple of other stations sometimes 60 km in from the main road, so it's important to do the calcs on a regular basis. The camp ground to Manning Gorge is just a short ,rough 10 km drive in and on the Manning River. A quirky start to the walk beginning at a large rock pool where we jumped into a tinny which was self operated by a rope and pulley system. Enjoyed the hike to the waterfall, some rock scrambling and ledges but beautiful clear water in the pool and plenty of water in the falls. Lots of people swimming and jumping from numerous ledges on the waterfall. Quite a few wildflowers in bloom, wattles, Kimberley Heather, a beautiful orange flowering gum the Woolybutt, Kimberley Rose (sticky kurrajong) and wild rosellas. Camp oven scones were ordered for morning tea! Some beautiful old boabs around the grounds, very dusty but we're lucky to be able to light the campfire thankfully as nights have been chilly.
