Squirrel on tour
Change of plans.
Due to the bad weather are plans to go north to laze about on some of Cairns top beaches had to be put on hold for another Oz trip.
So referring to the bible....the lonely planet oz book we decided to head in land for a bit to the rainforest. A little place called Kuranda only an hr away from Cairns but it seemed like hundreds of miles away. (Totally different to Cairns)
As soon as we got on the banger banger Johns bus to Kuranda that only cost 2 dollars we both looked at each other and questioned what we were doing!!! We were the only tourists on the bus and everyone else was full on hillbilly peeps!!! Basically to give you an idea what was going though are naive minds..for an hr we listened to a lady tell everyone how she lived in a tree!!!! Then we had toretts guy, along with smelly bill and bob and so on....
We turned up in Kuranda and suddenly it all fell in to place....the reason why everyone was telling us Kuranda is not the type of place you want to stay in!!! In the whole of Kuranda there were 2 motels and 2 pubs and hundreds of souvenior shops because Kuranda is really popular with tourists throughout the day. Everyone gets to Kuranda by sky rail spends the day there and heads back by train.
But not us.
We checked into Kuranda motel about 2pm. By 4pm we thought it would be nice to have a little walk around the shops!!! It was like a ghost town!!! Only 2hrs earlier you couldn't move because of tourists. In Kuranda lazy people they are..shutters go down everywhere at 3:30pm!!
Don't know if we are just as crazy as Kuranda people but there was something about hillbilly town we liked so decided to stay another night. The next day with cameras at are ready bright eyed we decided to do the sight seeing thing. In the morning we took the sky rail right over the rainforest and stopped off along the way to look at waterfalls and do the educational school trip thing. Listening to talks about the rainforest. Then ended up virtually back in Cairns at an aboriginal cultural park Tjabakui for another 4hrs of informative talks about the aboriginal culture. All in all an extremely educational day. We did well. But hope the weather brightens up soon cause this sight seeing thing is really tiring....Lol.
