I allowed myself to sleep in till quite late and then sat in a cafe for a few hours enjoying a fresh orange juice and crossiant and working on my Portuguese.
Then I had a walk around the city. Considering everyone one I have met has told me Zaragoza is not worth going to, it was very nice. The main attraction, el pilar (the cover picture) was very beautiful and there were a lot of other interesting buildings as well as a little horse statue (see pic).
Before Joanna came I had enough time to buy a new bikini. I have now thrown my other one away, a heart wrenching moment, as I must of had it since at least 2012 (I remember wearing it in Thailand)!
Joanna and I had a really good afternoon. We had a drink in a cafe before going to the Aljaferia palace. For one Euro we had a tour and entrance, perks of a student card. It was another Muslim palace, very beautiful, but it had nothing on the Alhambra.
After sangria in a bar it was time to eat something. We went to a tapas bar and had an amazing tapa- bit of bread with a calamari ring stuffed with crab meat risotto and a king prawn sitting on top. Delicious.
Then we made our way back to the square and had paella with a jug of the best sangria I've had in Spain. There was a massive storm whilst we were eating and big strikes of lightening illuminated the sky. We were sat under big umbrellas so were protected from the rain and any that did hit us was refreshing as it was still so hot.
Joanna got the last bus back to her village at 11 and I walked back to the hostel. I had talked to an Argentinian woman and French girl before I left in the morning and they were there when I got back. It was interesting to talk to them again.

Daf Food sounds good sangria even better! Not so sure that sitting under an umbrella is the best option in a thunder storm. Off to Portugal now? xx
Laura True- we survived though! No I won't be Im Portugal until the 29th I think
Caryn Food sounds mouth watering, and as Dad says, it would be lovely to be drinking some sangria on a warm evening in Spain... are we jealous....? Gload you enjoyed your visit to Zaragoza and time with Joanna. Hope your Portuguese skills are coming along well xxx
